Yes, they take it 100% seriously. It took a lot to not laugh out loud.

I have a dirty, deep rooted, and previously secret love for K-Cars. The more vanilla the better. I’d love a brand new Aries sedan, off-white with a vinyl interior and the most boring hub caps ever. I don’t even care what engine it has, as long as it’s terrible.

So much want.

Considering how many k-cars in good condition are still around I love too see them.

I found out that there are PT Cruiser clubs last year. The members were mostly older women, which is actually kind of cool.

I spy some first-gen Caravans (and rightly so) but are there any K-limos around?

They’re starting to show up at some local car shows on the East coast, too (mainly Town and Countrys). I’m all for it; it’s nice to see something different for a change.

That LeBaron GTS is really clean (and a nice color, too). It sort of reminds me of the Dodge Lancer that I still occasionally see in my neighborhood. It’s just as clean, but metallic brown.

I’m really glad to see at least a few people watching after them. They were really forward thinking when Ford and GM were still building behemoths. They had a high performance potential when a turbo was applied. And Chrysler wouldn’t be alive today without them, so no Vipers, Hellcats, or the current Jeeps.

My dad actually bought one a few years ago from the original owner on the side of the road for $600. Had about 100k miles and was super reliable and insanely comfortable. Minnesota salt eventually got the better of it.

Long story short there need to be more people that love and preserve cars like the K-Car that have zero classic potential, or otherwise all of them will rot away.

not sure if you read the crowd on that one, of course Oppo loves K-cars, because Oppo is contrarian inclusive.

Funny how you say something like this makes you want to laugh, but a couple of posts later some snot haughtily proclaims that every “enthusiast” should have to drive a rotary at least once.

You don’t have to like everything in order to be an enthusiast.

K car wasn’t that bad. Had one back in the day easy to work on and reliable for its time.I’d much rather go to this over a stance meet.

Cars like this are why I want to be rich I want a shop that specializes in putting modern engine and everything in them. This would give them roughly double the horsepower and a million times more livability. People say the idea is stupid, I say that you don’t need a million idiots to like a custom car you just need one.

My dad’s side of the family excluding my dad had a thing for 80's Chryslers. My grandfather had a brown LeBaron wagon with the wood paneling.

Kinja'd!!!

Then a black LeBaron GTS. I loved riding it that car to hear the turbo spool up. It had the same wheels as this one.

Kinja'd!!!

My grandmother had a white Fifth Avenue with lipstick red leather.

Kinja'd!!!

My aunt had a LeBaron convertible identical to the one above with the wood paneling and the “Mark Cross” leather interior package.

All of them were either Monday or Friday cars and were maintenance headaches.

We had two first year K-cars, both terrible, learned to drive on the second one. Our White 81 reliant, with the cute little dog-dish rally wheels, was bought new by the same grandfather who bought my 85 toyota with zero options. I gave me a taste for bench seats, manual everything, utilitarian vehicles. I’d love to see some preserved ones. Sure they were awful, but about the same as the early tempo and J body, probably better than the X body. In the context of the time they came from, they were the right car.

I love that there is a group of enthusiasts for everyone’s taste in cars but...this is just plain bizarre. More power to them. Or “Mopar” to them.

The LeBaron convertible belongs to a friend of mine. 26,000 miles. I’m really starting to fall for that odd little car. The steering wheel is off center when you sit, it may as well be a Stratos!

That car is pretty fantastic. It’s the perfect application of a 90 hp engine with a finicky carburetor and a 3 speed automatic that has no idea how to smoothly downshift! I can hear it now! The sound of my childhood!

In college I had a 94 Shadow ES (K platform evolution) with the 3.0l Mitsubishi V6 and a 5 speed. This car was blistering fast for what it was. I used to autocross it. For a winter beater I found an 87 Reliant LE (with the ultra rare console shifter) that i bought from the original owner. The following summer I overhauled the engine with high compression forged pistons, a custom cam and milled the head. Needed to run 93 octane in it but it was probably the fastest naturally aspirated K car in the world. Had to be somewhere around 150-175 hp. Would smoke the front tires through 3rd gear. ran 9.80's in the 1/8th mile, which was only a couple tenths slower than the shadow. this was 20 years ago, but I still miss both those cars, and still occasionally look for another v6 shadow or sundance.
